Una pequeña mezcla de todo……. / A little mix of everything.........

Buenos dias!

Good morning!, today’s post is a little mix of topic, tutorial and something personal.

Last Saturday my mother, who has a serious heart condition, wasn’t feeling well so we took her to hospital. After many medical tests she was admitted to the hospital (luckily she’s already home since Tuesday afternoon). That first night I stayed with her and so on Monday. Anyone who had stayed in hospital taking care of another person knows how long hours can be there so I made the most of Saturday night unpicking some hexies I had done following the technique of “English paper piecing”. I didn’t manage to sew them so I tried another way I had seen months ago in Quilts etc.. (I recommend you to visit Karen’s blog). The following morning, in spite of not having slept, I went home and apart from doing other things I washed and ironed them to mark them and sew them with her technique (thanks Karen!).

On Monday I took to hospital several squares, triangles and diamonds who I had already cut in jeans and flowery fabric and as my mother was feeling a little better I made the most of a while she got up from bed to spread out them on her bed trying to have an idea of the layout to sew them. In her room my mother had an empty tissue box which I reused as a pincushion and thread trash. I’m showing you a couple of photos. Why am I telling you all this? Because unfortunately during last year and this year I have spent many many hours taking care of my parents in hospital rooms and quilting or doing some sewing, knitting, crochetting have always helped me to keep awake, with my mind partly focused in another thing and doing something which I really like even in those circumstances I recommend you to do because it really helps. A big weekend hug for all!!

¿Está sobrevalorada la juventud? / Is youth overrated?

I’d say yes and, in my opinion, each time more. Anyone can see in their city that women of a certain age (because it mainly affects to women and mainly to women who have past their forties) trying to pretend half the age they are. They dress, make up, wear shoes, move and act according to that half age they pretend, why? Why a woman in their fifties has to pretend to be 25? What for?. Some time ago I used to go to a hairdresser’s where the hairdresser, a very funny lady, said me once: “that kind of women are women of the fright”. I replied: “How’s that?” Laughing she told me: “Yees, women of the fright because they are women who physically take care of themselves to the extreme (doing very hard diets, putting on a thousand facial creams, dressing almost like teenagers, etc.) and here they come to take care of their hair (even long hair) as if they were 25 but when they turn round, there it comes the fright!”. We both laughed a lot about the anecdote but I think it’s absolutely significative.

I am 48 years old (49 next 27th August), so I’m just two years away from the big fifties, and I wouldn’t like at all to come back to my 25. I am convinced that each of us is who he/she is and what he/she is thanks to passing through that moment in life and it remains what he/she learned during it. Nobody can have the mind of a 50 year-old person with the body and face of a 25-year-old, it is neither natural nor logical. Each one is who he/she is and has to accept (or try to) himself/herself  as he/she is, with the age he/she is and as Mother Nature has allowed him/her to come to be (genes also have their influence eh? jaja). Do you agree?. Hugs!!!

¿Quién quiere cambiar de compañía telefónica? / Who wants to move to another telephone company?

                                                                      www.juntadeandalucia.es

This is going to be my first translated post. My English is not too bad but there'll be mistakes for sure please be kind jajaja, I’m doing my best, Thanks!)

Ayyy

Good morniiiiiing!. I don’t!. I don’t want to move to another telephone company, what a pain in the neck with those changes!. I’m sure you have already “suffered” what is to change telephone rates without giving it a second thought. Ayyy

In Spain we have the following (fictitious names): Osí, Badafon and Muevestrella. All of them make the easiest way for you to go in with this new rate, this new advantage, etc etc buuuut when you go in……everything is a kind of a maze of “I put you through such and such department”, “You didn’t ask for your complaint number”, “We don’t keep record of your call/request/complaint,…” etc etc etc.

I moved from Osí to Muevestrella, and there the odyssey started. Osí sent me an invoice when I wasn’t their client already and Muevestrella didn’t apply the right rate from the first moment so for two months I’ve been paying more than I was paying before the change, where’s the benefit then?. Ah! And don’t think to ask the bank to return the invoice or not to charge that invoice in your account because automatically you get into the RAI (Defaulter record). Then which is the way we consumers have to defend ourselves? Countless phone calls to customers department and invest time claiming. In my case it seems that everything is going the right way and the amounts are going to be refunded to me but why so much bureaucracy for a so simple thing?. Ladies/gentlemen from telephone companies ease those procedures, employ efficient employees and ease the changes because then more than one customer will think if that change is worthwhile the headache. Have you ever had the same experience I've had?. Hugs!!

And now in English:

Good evening, surprise! today two posts in the same day but for a good reason: today I have had a look at this blog from another computer selecting English in the Google translator in order to check how it translated my words into English. I couldn't believe it! Reading those no sense words I didn't know what to do to laught or to cry. It's the worst translation I've ever read in my life. So I have decided to translate all my posts since the first one. On monday you'll see the post of the day first in Spanish and below in English. As I get free time I will translate the other posts, both topics and tutorials. I think that way people from other countries following this blog will have easier to read and understand it without the bad translation of the Google translator. There is a say, if you want things done right, do them by yourself. There I go!. Hugs!!

Tutorial: bolso vaquero / Jeans bag

Good morniiing!. Ready for the first summer weekend? I hope so, enjoy yourself. Here you have the friday tutorial, a few materials and very nice result. Look for old jeans and let's get on with it. Hugs!!

The two old jean legs, strong material strips for the handles, sequins or what you have or would like to embellish the bag, needle, thread and scissors.

Realización:/ Steps:

Cut the two old jean legs as high as deep you'd like the bag. Open them by one of the seams leaving the hem at the top. Sew the two parts leaving 1 cm seam.
Grab a bag which handles are comfy for you, measure them and cut the same measurement of the strong material for your new bag.
3. Decóralo a tu gusto y a lucirlo!. Embellish it and enjoy it!

¡Bienvenid@ al club "Yo he hecho de esas o peores"!/ Welcome to the "I've done such or worse" club!

¡Si yo he hecho de esas o peoresss! jajaja.

Good morning and welcome to this club to which we all have been members some time or who knows if we are members of it right now. This is a club you become member, usually without notice and involuntary, when you meet a friend (it's more common among women) and in front of a coffee your friend explains you that (a fictitious case but very common) a week ago she met a man and after feeling an incredible chemistry between them (let apart the physical (play on words in Spanish) which is a matter only of their concern jajaja) in their first date Mr. Right has dissapeared with no trace. She has went round and round that date trying to think what went wrong to give an explanation to the silent telephone. And in a specific moment of the conversation between your friend and you she asks you the feared question: what would you do?. In that moment you, the asked part, try to make the most of your experience in life and about that particular topic and you say to yourself: but what am I going to tell her? I've done that kind of things or worse! jajaja.

I'm sure that we all have told ourselves in any moment in our single lives that we wouldn't do this or we wouldn't do that but when the moment arrives. Ayyy when the moment arrives…..we do it, of course we do it! jajajaj. Therefore how are we going to pretend being wiser than our friend and give advice if when it's our turn we wouldn't follow our own advices? Which is your experience about this matter?. Hugs!

Me gusta vivir en Valencia / I like living in Valencia

                                                                       www.turisvalencia.es

I love living in Valencia. The first thing someone could think after hearing that affirmation could be: what a bright idea! I love living in (the city in which any of you live)! Jajaja, I explain myself: I was born, raised and grown up in Valencia. I say that I like my city because for me it has the appropiate size. It is a big city (we are about 800.000 inhabitants) not being an enourmous city as Madrid or Barcelona could be and we have theatres, cinemas, parks, museums, gardens, etc. Besides being a city rich in history with many places to see or visit which I often discover for the first time despite coming from here. For the people who are not from Valencia here you have this link  http://www.turisvalencia.es/ to have a look and make the decision to visit it (for whoever doesn’t know it yet) and re-visit it whoever had already been here.

To clarify matters: for all the above affirmations I can promise and promise jeje that Mrs. Barberá (our Mayor) hasn’t promised me neither an extra pay nor any apartment in Santa Pola (Alicante) as in that tv quiz (“Un, dos, tres responda otra vez”) jajaja.

Well and to finish this post (today it’s longer than I limit myself) I like living in Valencia because it is a beautiful, bright, beside the sea and with a appropiate size city, in my opinion, to have a good quality of life. I recommend it to you!. Hugs!!

Tutorial: Cuadro hecho con camisetas/ T-shirt made picture

Good morniing. It's friday! Weeks fly, I wish you that yours has flown light and happy heading this weekend starting today and here you have an easy tutorial, as the ones I've already posted, a little picture for the bathroom or for that wall you have no idea of what to hang or for the kitchen or for….I know you'll find it the right place.

A piece of DM (as wide and as high you'd like your picture), glue, a little bit of paint, a couple of old t-shirts (in this case one white and one blue), scissors, a paintbrush and a little bit of coffee (yes yes make a coffee for you to make this craft and another one to place beside you to use it in it).

Realización:/ Steps:

Paint the DM in the colour you'd like for the background of your picture including the sides and the back part, that way the result will be better.
Trace or copy the design you'd like to do on the picture. Something to bear in mind, the design can't have lots of details because the material (the t-shirt strips) don't allow you to make a defined design.
Cut the t-shirts in 1.5 cm width aprox and streeeeeetch to the maximum. They will turn out as a load of spaghetti, veeery long
Now we can start with the craft. Start glueing the t-shirt strips on the design from the centre outwards. Patiently, little by little you'll notice the picture is being made. It doesn't matter the edges are as irregular as mine, that's the point we are trying to make a rustic picture.
What did we want the coffee for? Now is the moment but before it have you already enjoyed your cold coffee now summer is in? well now you have to use the coffee beside yours. You have to use it like paint. Be careful, the more coats you give the darker the result will be. If that's your case, like in mine, my picture was too dark after the "coffee paint" you can try rubbing some white paint on a wet sponge and it will lighten a little bit. It's a matter of trying until you get the shade you like.

I hope you'll make a lovely picture. Enjoy this weekend. Hugs!!

¿Te embarcas en el vuelo 787? / Will you get on board flight no.787?

Buenas tardeees!.

Good afternoon! Now that each day we are a day nearer to summer holidays the idea of a flight to any place is more than suggestive but I’m absolutely sure that you wouldn’t like the one I am putting forward to you jajaja. I’ll explain you in a second:

Since last year my parents are going through health problems, one after another (this is true) and that makes anyone to be in low spirits. One day I was with my mother and she started saying: ayyyy, I’d like to already go to 787! Ayyyy I want to gooo. Now you’ll be asking yourself, logically, what is the 787. Well that number (invented) is the number of my family pantheon. What my mother meant is: ayyyy I’d like to dieee. I looked at her very seriously, stood up, fitted a fictitious little scarf to one side of my neck, put a fictitious little cap on one the same side as the little scarf and with that flight attendant voice (you know what I mean jajaj) I said: “Welcome to 787 flight destination cemetery, please board through gate number 4. Last call passengers destination cemetery please boarding through gate number 4”. For a second my mother looked at me not understanding anything but to start laughing out loud two seconds later (and whoever I tell this anecdote, do you remember Estrella?). I tried hard but I took the drama out of the situation and change the negative “chip” to my mother but because that day I was in a good mood ehhh?? Don’t think that occurs at all times jajaja. Do you have similar anecdotes?. Hugs!!

Tutorial: cuadro flores abstractas/ Abstract flowers picture

Good morniing!, as the Americans say TGIF (Thank God Is Friday). Today is friday and this weekend we will have some free time again for a tutorial for example. Today I want to show you how to make a little abstract picture to which I shaped like flowers but each of you is free to make any shape you want and as always the most important thing is….enjoying making it. Let's go right to the materials and the way of doing it. Have a nice weekend!!

A white canvas from the Dollar store for example, a piece of burlap (or what you have at home, power to the imagination), different fabrics to make the circles, a little bit of white paint, a fine paintbrush and some glue.
Glue the burlap to the canvas and allow it to dry completely, cut the remaining. Meanwhile cut from the chosen fabrics concentric circles of different sizes, glue the flowers to the canvas and let it dry. With the white paint and the paintbrush paint the stems, leaves and around the circles to give them a little bit of highlight and that's it!! you have your abstract flowers picture ready to find the right place to hang on any of your home walls.

Buenas tardeees!.
