El insomnio/The insomnia

Good morning and good Wednesday everybody! Well I guess you’re all informed about the news in Spain: On monday King Juan Carlos I of Spain abdicated the throne of Spain in favour of his son Prince Felipe who will now be King Felipe VI. I’m not going into political considerations because I don’t like speaking neither about politics nor about religion so from a historical point of view, so to speak, Spain starts a new path. Let’s hope it’ll be the best for all.

And now right with the topic of today: do you usually sleep well? I hope so. We all know that sleeping is essential to feel well the following morning and after saying this I have to admit that I suffer from insomnia. I’ve been having problems to sleep since I was a teenager. I’ve tried everything:

A. Tomar infusiones relajantes, a veces funcionan pero no siempre. Drinking relaxing herbal teas, sometimes they work but not always

Doing relaxation exercises, same result as the relaxing herbal teas

Doing as much sport as to feel almost exhausted, beware of that because by doing that you can get the opposite effect, not sleeping by feeling extremely exhausted

Grabbing my laptop as my loyal bed mate and making the most of that time having a look at emails and webs I haven’t visited in some time

E. Tomar un somnífero, hay que descansar. A sleeping pill, one has to rest

A so simple thing as sleeping can sometimes turn into a nightmare but I have another last resource: listening to the radio. Some months ago I discovered the program “Awoken people” in Radio Nacional de España (the title of the program fits perfectly to all of us suffering insomnia jajaja) and is on from Monday to Friday from 3 am to 6 am and is directed by Carles Mesa. The way Mr. Mesa focus on the program invites the people who listen to him and the people he interviews to relax and think about other things. I recommend you this radio program not only to the ones living in Spain but also to the ones living abroad but being able to understand Spanish. If you want to listen to this radio program you can do it through internet any time it suits you well.....nice dreams!

  1. I too have problems with sleep Victoria - I'm afraid I have had to resort to sleeping pills - I have fibromyalgia and other medical problems and they get much worse if I do not sleep - I wish the teas and relaxation worked for me too - I have tried everything!

    1. We're not alone in the sleep matter Karen. Many many people have problems to sleep, because of illnesses, because of problems, because of many things. I really can't remember the last time I slept 8-9 hours, it can be years!
